What is the Anna-priset?

The Anna-priset is a feminist film award delivered as a scholarship. The annual scholarship is given to a person who presents a project of moving images that in terms of content, form and organization and with strong artistic qualities, interprets and translates the principles of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women – CEDAW.

The award was created in 2014 by Women in Film and Television (WIFT) Sweden and UN Women Sweden with the aim of expanding the knowledge of CEDAW – the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms Discrimination against Women, while recognizing that the application of the Convention is important for a vibrant film industry, where women film-makers are given the possibility to participate on equal terms and opportunities to make their voices heard.

 

Application

The application for Anna-priset will be open 15th of November to 31th of January 2025.
The selection process is conducted by a jury, which includes representatives from WIFT Sweden and UN Women Sweden.

 

Why was the Anna-priset created?

With the award WIFT Sweden and UN Women Sweden wish to contribute to unleash the untold stories of today, and make women’s voices heard. The award is a practical implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women, and promotes women’s human rights and fundamental freedoms.

 

Who delivers the Anna-priset?

The award was founded by two established organizations, Women in Film and Television (WIFT) Sweden and UN Women Sweden.

WIFT Sweden is a politically independent, non-profit organization that makes visible and strengthens professional women in all areas of film-making, television production and other sectors producing moving images, e.g. by: promoting networks, nationally and internationally, creating meeting opportunities for members, providing members with up to date information, supporting members in their professional careers and contributing to research and debate about women’s opportunities in film and television.

UN Women Sweden is a religiously and politically independent organization that works under the mandate of UN Women, to improve knowledge, awareness and implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women- CEDAW). Sweden was the first country to ratify the Convention in 1981. UN Women Sweden’s vision is a gender equal world, where no person is discriminated against or exposed to violence based on sex. UN Women Sweden works as a non-profit organization through a network of local chapters.

 

When is the winner announced?

The winner will be announced at the Tempo Film Festival in 8th of March 2025.
The prize will be 50 000 sek.

 

Who can apply?

Any person who presents a project of moving images that in terms of content, form, organization and with strong artistic qualities, interprets and translates the principles of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms Discrimination against Women – CEDAW.

The presented project must have some connection to Sweden, whether for example through a cooperating partner, geographical location, actors and technical personnel, artistic idea, author etc.

The prize has a ”free” form, in the sense that the project is not bound by format, length or other criteria predetermined by the jury.

Anybody, men, women and non-binary persons can apply.

Relatives or persons connected to any of the jury members are not eligible to apply for the prize.

How is the selection process conducted?

The prize is awarded to a person with a project of moving images that in terms of content, form and organization and with strong artistic qualities, interprets and translates the principles of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women – CEDAW.

An applicant must be prepared to respond to queries or complement information if the jury so requests.

The work of the jury is organized by WIFT Sweden. The jury works digitally and in jury meetings, assessing all applications received by midnight of 31 January 2025. The jury consists of i.a. representatives from WIFT Sweden and UN Women Sweden.
